Job Description

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations and cross-disciplinary research and post graduate education. CyI, through its established research centers, addresses challenging issues that are important at both the regional and international levels. Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas.

As a member of the IT team of the Cyprus Institute, the Audio Visual Specialist, will contribute in the Institute’s operational activities and events and will support its community for the efficient technical execution of Institute events and meetings. S/he will mainly be responsible to carry out high-quality audio visual and conference systems for the Institute’s activities and to implement immediate resolution or escalation of any audio visual and video conference related issues that may arise.


  1. Setup, integration and operation of audio, video, conference and lighting equipment for every event based on written and verbal instructions, including the installation and de-installation of the required equipment
  2. Preparation of venues ensuring the effective operation of hardware and software at optimum level, including sound tests with performers
  3. Performing preventive maintenance for ensuring equipment and venue readiness and availability for use on short notice
  4. Testing and implementation of new equipment
  5. Installation of hardware and software upgrades
  6. Documentation and reporting of equipment failures and performing minor repairs of venue equipment as necessary. Organizing and ensuring cleanliness and security of designated storage areas
  7. Transporting equipment to and from storage or production areas to performance venues
  8. Coordinating and assisting the production teams and other areas of the Institute as needed
  9. Providing general IT support and technical support on related IT and Audio Visual equipment when schedule permits
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Must have two (2) years minimum prior experience working on audio-visual / video conferencing integration and operation
  2. Knowledge of production equipment such as amplifiers, mixers, wireless microphones, video equipment, lighting fixtures including maintenance and safety standards
  3. Must be engaged in the process of continuous technical development and looking for areas of improvement
  4. Flexible schedule required, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays- as dictated by the events schedule;
  5. Highly reliable, punctual, responsive and with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  6. Must be responsive, efficient, have excellent interpersonal interaction and exhibit a high level of professionalism
  7. Good organization and time management skills with proven ability to manage multiple priorities
  8. Must have a valid driver’s license
  9. High level organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  10. Excellent learning and development skills
  11. Ability to multitask changing priorities in a high-pressure work environment
  12. Good English language skills and able to interact and communicate with others at all levels

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Experience in general IT support
  2. A diploma or bachelor’s degree in a related field will be considered an advantage
