The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit science and technology-oriented Educational and Research Institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued by its four Research Centers: the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Center (STARC), the Energy Environment Water Research Center (EEWRC) and the Climate and Atmospheric Research Center (CARE-C).

The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC) of CyI invites applications for a Computational Scientist with expertise in computation-based science and technology. The position is within the EU H2020 NI40S-Europe project and the successful candidate is expected to participate in the management of the project as well as in the development of strategies for simulation and data management/repositories and to enable research in diverse scientific areas.



The successful candidate will work at CaSToRC with a main focus on developing strategies for the mining and management of large scientific data and/or for developing scalable simulation codes for scientific applications that require high performance computing. They will be primarily engaged in the following activities:

  1. NI40S-Europe project management activities;
  2. Preparation of reports related to the NI4OS-Europe project;
  3. Coordination with other participating partner sites, and members of the user communities;
  4. Development and implementation of tools for scientific data analysis;
  5. Data analytics and/or expertise in large simulation, scalable algorithms and codes;
  6. Identification of computational/data needs of scientific user communities and their translation into technical solutions.
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  1. A PhD Degree in Physics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or any other related field.
  2. Strong Academic track record (publications, presentations at international conferences)
  3. Ability to lead tasks within the NI4OS-Europe implementation project.
  4. Experience in programming with C, C++;
  5. An understanding of high performance computing, scalable programming and data repository architectures;
  6. Knowledge of large scale simulations
  7. Knowledge of software for HPC and machine learning
  8. Experience in writing technical papers, reports, and journal publications
  9. Analytical problem solving ability;
  10. Proficiency in oral and written English;
  11. Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience in the development of data-intensive scientific applications;
  2. Experience in parallel programming;
  3. Knowledge in data management
  4. Knowledge in novel computer architectures
  5. Experience in writing research proposals for competitive funds.
