The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations and cross-disciplinary research and post graduate education. CyI, through its established research centers, addresses challenging issues that are important at both the regional and international levels. Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas.

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) invites applications for a highly motivated professional to join the Institute at the position of Project Officer. The selected candidate will be a member of the Research Management and Administration structure of the Institute, attached to the Energy Division of its Energy Environment and Water Research Center. S/he will be expected to support the management and administration of the Division’s projects, with the monitoring, support and guidance of the Research and Innovation Management and Support (RIMS) Office of the Institute. 


The selected candidate will report to the Head of the ENERGY Division and the Director of Research and Technical Services and Support and will work closely with all personnel of the Division and the RIMS office. Proven experience in managing and coordinating research projects funded by the European Commission, the Research and Innovation Foundation and other funding bodies is considered a substantial advantage but it is not a requirement.    


The appointment will be on a full time basis, initially for a period of two years, with the potential of renewal depending on performance and availability of funds. The rank and remuneration of the position will depend on the selected candidate’s qualifications.



Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Supports the oversight of research and innovation projects (various funding sounces including EU, Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF))
  2. Contributes to the execution of Project administration and coordination activities, including financial reporting, deliverables, communication with funding organisations
  3. Participates and helps facilitate the planning and coordination of the Division’s activities
  4. Supports the identification and promotion of research and innovation funding opportunities
  5. Aids in the development and writing of research and innovation project proposals
  6. Coordinates with and contributes to the activities of the CyI Research and Innovation Management and Support Office (RIMS). 
Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in any relevant field
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office IT
  • Excellent knowledge of oral and written Greek and English
  • Experience in presenting to medium and large audiences
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adopt to a multicultural/multinational environment


Preferred/Disirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Previous experience of writing and/or supporting researchers in writing research proposals
  • Experience in managing EU-funded research projects would be an advantage
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or in a Natural Sciences or in an Engineering field will be a competitive advantage.
  • Previous experience in a research/academic institution
