Job Description

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations and cross-disciplinary research and post graduate education. CyI, through its established research centers, addresses challenging issues that are important at both the regional and international levels. Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas.

The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC) of CyI invites applications for a Scientific Coordinator position with project management duties. The Scientific Coordinator will take responsibility for coordinating and supporting the implementation of the SimEA ERA Chair project. This includes not only administrative matters, but also engagement in the strategic development of the project portfolio and the research agenda of the ERA Chair.

 

About the SimEA ERA Chair project (https://simea.eu/)

The Modelling and Simulation for Engineering Applications project aims to consolidate and upgrade the already substantial activity CaSToRC in computational sciences adding computational engineering. This will be accomplished by attracting and installing an outstanding cluster of researchers, led by a professor of international stature to maximally utilize and upgrade the existing facilities, and pursue a program of research excellence and innovation. The SimEA ERA Chair is funded by a prestigious EU ERA Chair award of 2.5 Million Euro, a five-year grant. In addition, the Institute will provide 0.7 Million Euro for the computational infrastructure needs of the ERA Chair.

 

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be carrying out the following activities

  1. Oversight of research projects and in particular the SimEA ERA Chair project
  2. Project administration/coordination (financial reporting, deliverables, communication with funding organizations)
  3. Participation in the planning and coordination of the activities of the ERA Chair project.
  4. Identification of funding opportunities (from various funding sources including EU, Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF))
  5. Aiding in the development and writing of project proposals
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • A PhD degree in Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Life Sciences, Computational Engineering or Computer Science
  • Previous experience in a research/academic institution
  • Excellent knowledge of oral and written English
  • Strong scientific and technical writing skills
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask and change priorities with limited supervision
  • General knowledge of computational methods and High-Performance Computing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in project management
  • Experience in proposal writing for competitive funding
  • Experience in presenting to medium and large audiences
  • Knowledge of project management techniques and software tools
