The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations and cross-disciplinary research and post graduate education. CyI, through its established research centers, addresses challenging issues that are important at both the regional and international levels. Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas.

STARC is devoted to the development, introduction and use of advanced science and technologies in the field of archaeological sciences, cultural heritage, history and culture of the region.

The Data and Web Management Specialist will join STARC’s growing team in Digital Libraries, Databases, and Data Management for Archaeology and Cultural Heritage. S/he will work closely with existing staff to upgrade, develop and expand our Data and Web Management capabilities. S/he will be involved in the creation and implementation of a wide variety of web-based solutions and applications including multiple websites and microsites—and databases to ensure robust optimization and functionality. The selected candidate will also assist in the maintenance of existing Linux based operating systems, and Content Management security updates.

The appointment will be on a full time basis, initially for a fixed-term period, with the potential of renewal depending on performance and availability of funds.


The successful candidate will be carrying out the following activities

  • Assist in developing a STARC Data Management System
  • Contribute to the management of existing datasets
  • Support the upgrade and expansion of DIOPTRA digital library
  • Support STARC related web management needs
  • Work with the CyTERA team on data management/ storage issues (
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications and Attributes

  • Bachelor degree in one of the below fields:
  1. Computer Science
  2. Information Technologies
  3. Computer Engineering
  4. Software Engineering
  • Understanding of web best practices, responsive design, and current techniques
  • Ability to work in Mac, Windows and Linux environments
  • Interest in archaeology and cultural heritage
  • Desire to learn proprietary development tools and systems
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language, both verbal and in writing
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to a multicultural, multinational environment
  • Previous relevant experience would be considered as an advantage

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP experience
  • Experience in Drupal 7,8 or any other Content Management Systems
  • Experience working with Git version control and the command line, Linux Centos preferable
