The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations and cross-disciplinary research and post graduate education. CyI, through its established research centers, addresses challenging issues that are important at both the regional and international levels. Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas.

The successful candidate will be a member of the team responsible for the modelling and simulation of historical buildings for Building Information Modelling (BIM) applications. The successful candidate will contribute to the production of a BIM environment that will integrate three dimensional (3D) reconstructions of historical buildings in all their aspects (structural, architectural, operational, etc.) with their construction materials and database of simulated performance, as well as all the relevant linked metadata and assets. Furthermore, the successful candidate will contribute to historical building renovation strategies, and will be asked to troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise, as well as to identify and pursue opportunities for further research development. Finally, the successful candidate will be required to contribute to an educational course for officers of public authorities, as well as to assist in the production of a database of historical building models for rehabilitation purposes.

The appointment will be on a full time basis, initially for a fixed-term period, with the potential of renewal depending on performance and availability of funds.


The successful candidate will be carrying out the following activities

  • 3D modelling of historical buildings and architectural heritage for research purposes.
  • Building Information Modelling of built heritage for architectural conservation purposes.
  • Retrofit construction methods.
  • Creating simulations of building performance for energy efficiency.
  • Identifying opportunities for the further enrichment and advancement of existing BIM applications.


Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as Architecture, Design, building physics, Engineering, etc.
  • At least three (3) years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in architectural conservation research.
  • Experience and proficiency with Building Information Modelling and building performance simulation.
  • Experience in simulation with software, such as Autodesk Ecotect Analysis, Rhinoceros3D (Grasshopper w. Ladybug), and ENVI-met.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in architectural conservation and retrofit.
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language both verbal and in writing. Knowledge of the Greek language will be considered an advantage.
  • Motivated, creative, resourceful, and solution oriented individual.
  • High level of organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt in a multicultural environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree at a relevant field.
  • 3D modeling, e.g., Autodesk 3ds max; Rhinoceros3D, and parametric tools.
  • Experience with scripting in Python.
  • Experience in architectural construction.
