The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations, cross-disciplinary research, innovation, and post graduate education. CyI, through its established research centres, addresses challenging issues that are important at both the regional and international levels. Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas.

CyI invites applications for a JavaScript (WebGL) Developer to work as member of the STARC Centre. The successful candidate will work in the framework of the Invisible Heritage – Analysis and Technology Project (IH-AT) which aims to design and develop an innovative portal comprised of reliable and efficient technology-ready tools for the visualization, documentation and analysis of the UNESCO listed churches in the Troodos area. The project aims in applying Non-Destructive-Techniques (NDT), geophysics, 3D modelling and visualization methods, supported by art-historical and archaeological research, to investigate a cluster of selected churches in Cyprus. The main aims are to preserve by way of record the existing structural remains and to identify lost and invisible features as well as assess the conservation conditions of their structures. The portal based on WebGL libraries will be exploited by a variety of stakeholders and is targeted to multiple economical actors such as public authorities, universities and individuals.

Job Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience


  1. Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or any other relevant subject
  2. Knowledge of JavaScript and/or 3D programming
  3. Excellent knowledge of the English language both verbal and in writing
  4. High level of organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
  5. High level of communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt in a multicultural environment


Preferred Qualifications and Experience


  1. JavaScript API for rendering interactive 2D and 3D graphics 
  2. 3D interactive visualization, UI development
  3. Proficiency in code versioning tools such as GitHub
  4. PHP programming language
  5. Experience in 2D and 3D data processing
  6. Experience in WebGL programming
  7. Knowledge of 3D online visualization platforms (Potree, 3DHop) will be considered an advantage
  8. 2-year experience in a similar role
