The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations, cross-disciplinary research, innovation, and post graduate education. CyI, through its established research centres, addresses challenging issues that are important at both the regional and international levels. Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas.


The Institute is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and competent Support and Maintenance Technician to provide technical support at the PROTEAS field facility in Pentakomo. The successful candidate will perform a range of technical and maintenance tasks. S/He will be required to support installation of equipment, sensors and supplies which will serve the research projects.

The appointment will be on a full time basis, initially for a fixed term period of two (2) years with the potential of renewal depending on performance and availability of funds. The joining rank and annual salary will depend on the applicants' experience and qualifications.


The successful candidate will be required to perform the following tasks at the PROTEAS facility:

  • Technical support in installation, checking and commissioning of sensors
  • Technical support with data acquisition systems (DAQ)
  • Technical support with the heliostat’s field maintenance and upgrade
  • Technical support with electric connections and electronic wiring
  • Preparation of experimental set up
  • Keeping a clear record of all on going activities at the facility, including visitors, personnel visits, experiments, maintenance work etc.
  • Keeping a record of all available documents for every component and an inventory of the equipment / consumables in the storage room
  • Maintain the workspace and scientific equipment indoor and outdoor in an excellent condition.
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  1. Relevant technical or electrical certificate
  2. High school diploma or equivalent
  3. Good communication and interpersonal skills
  4. Ability to operate in a multicultural/multidisciplinary environment
  5. High level of communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt in a multicultural environment

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience in handling electrical instruments
  2. Experience with the maintenance of industrial or research facilities 
  3. Experience on solar facilities / set up
  4. Experience with supporting scientific research projects will be considered an advantage
  5. Knowledge of the English language will be considered an advantage
