The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit science and technology institution based in Cyprus with a local and regional mission. The research program of the Cyprus Institute is pursued mainly through its three research centers: the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology Research Center (STARC), and the Energy Environment Water Research Center (EEWRC). Considerable cross-center interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.

The CyI invites applications for Scientific Coordinator(s)/Project Officer(s) from highly motivated professionals with strong administrative, organizational and communication skills to advance and coordinate part of its research portfolio. Research projects at CyI involve collaborations with national and international institutions as well as educational and training activities. Description of the position

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for Scientific Coordinator(s)/Project Officer(s) with project management expertise. The Scientific Coordinator(s)/Project Officer(s) will take responsibility for coordinating and supporting the initiation, and implementation of the Cyprus Institute research projects. The successful candidates are expected to drive the implementation of funded projects and communication with partners with minimal guidance.

Responsibilities

The successful candidates will work with a main focus on coordinating and managing research projects. They will be primarily engaged in:

  • Oversight of research and innovation projects (various funding sources including EU & Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation (RPF))
  • Project administration/coordination (financial reporting, deliverables, communication with funding agencies)
  • Participation in the planning and coordination of the CyI Center/Division they will be appointed
  • Identification of research and innovation funding opportunities
  • Aiding in the development and writing of research and innovation project proposals

The appointment will be for a fixed term of one (1) year with a prospect for renewal for an additional two (2) years. The rank and salary range will be commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. An extension of the appointment can be made depending on availability of funding and performance.

Candidate Profile

The candidate(s) should have a scientific background suitable for the initiation and administrative management of research projects. Proven experience in the management of research projects will be considered an advantage. The position requires a proactive, creative, independently thinking person with passion for promoting science and technology.

Prerequisite skills:

  • A University degree and Master’s in a field relevant to the research portfolio of the Institute
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience in presenting to medium and large audiences
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adopt to a multicultural/multinational environment
  • Ability to multitask and change priorities with minimum supervision
  • High level organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent knowledge of office IT
  • Excellent knowledge of oral and written English.

Additional preferred skills:

  • Previous experience in a research/academic institution
  • A Doctoral Degree in a scientific or engineering field
  • At least three (3) years of previous experience of supporting researchers in writing research proposals and managing relevant projects
  • Experience in preparing business plans
  • Experience in innovation management
  • Knowledge of project management techniques and software tools
  • Excellent knowledge of oral and written Greek will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of the Cypriot Scientific and Governmental systems.
