The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit science and technology institution based in Cyprus with a local and regional mission. The research program of the Cyprus Institute is pursued mainly through its three research centers: the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology Research Center (STARC), and the Energy, Environment & Water Research Center (EEWRC). The CyI invites applications for a Scientific Coordinator position from highly motivated professionals with strong administrative, organizational and communication skills to advance and coordinate part of its research portfolio. Research projects at CyI involve collaborations with national and international institutions as well as educational and training activities. Description of the position

The Cyprus Institute invites applications of highly motivated individuals who are interested in scientific proposal coordination and writing in fields of research related to CaSToRC activities. The successful candidate will take responsibility for implementing CaSToRC related proposals and coordinating the writing of others including the CaSToRC teaming proposal for phase-2. In addition, he/she is expected to identify funding opportunities in the appropriate fields of the center and to drive the implementation of funded projects and communication with partners with minimal guidance.


The successful candidate will work with a main focus on implementing and coordinating the writing of research projects. They will be primarily engaged in:

  • Aiding in the development and writing of the CaSToRC Teaming proposal
  • CaSToRC Teaming proposal administration/coordination (financial reporting, deliverables, communication with EC and other partners)
  • Participation in the planning and coordination of follow-up proposals related to the theme of the CaSToRC Teaming proposal
  • Identification of research and innovation funding opportunities connected to the theme of the CaSToRC Teaming proposal
  • Participation in the funded PRACE 4IP project until its completion

The appointment will be for a fixed term of one (1) year with a prospect for renewal for an additional of two (2) years depending on the availability of funds and performance. The salary range will be commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.

Job Requirements

Candidate Profile

The candidate should have a scientific background suitable for the initiation and administrative management of research projects related to computational science. Proven experience in the management of research projects will be considered an advantage. The position requires a proactive, creative, independently thinking person with passion for promoting science and technology.

Prerequisite skills:

  • A University degree and Master’s in a scientific and engineering field
  • Knowledge of computational methods and data analytics or scientific computing
  • Experience in presenting to medium and large audiences
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adopt to a multicultural/multinational environment
  • Ability to multitask and change priorities with minimum supervision
  • High level organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent knowledge of office IT
  • Excellent knowledge of oral and written English.

Additional preferred skills:

  • A PhD in a scientific or engineering field will be highly preferred
  • Previous experience in a research/academic institution
  • Research experience in a computational field will be an asset
  • Expertise in scientific computing and/or intensive data applications
  • Previous experience of supporting researchers in writing research proposals and managing relevant projects
  • Previous experience in preparing business plans
  • Experience in innovation management
  • Knowledge of project management techniques and software tools
