Job Description

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit science and technology institution based in Cyprus with a local and regional mission. The research program of the Cyprus Institute is pursued mainly through its three research centers: the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology Research Center (STARC), and the Energy Environment Water Research Center (EEWRC). Considerable cross-center interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.

The CyI invites applications for a part-time Project Officer with project management experience to carry out the activities of EU funded projects related to Coordination and Support Actions and Innovation.

Description of the position:

The Project Officer will take responsibility for coordinating and supporting the implementation of the Cyprus Institute research and innovation projects. The successful candidate is expected to drive the implementation of funded projects and communication with partners with minimal guidance. Being part of the CyI RIMS Office, the Project Officer will contribute to its overall operation and development.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be primarily engaged in:

  • Oversight of externally funded research projects (EU funded)
  • Project administration/coordination (financial reporting, deliverables, communication with partners and funding organisations, participation in meetings in Cyprus and abroad)
  • Preparation of business plans related to knowledge exploitation and new research centers and units
  • Identification of commercialization potential of research results and preparation of relevant reports

The appointment will be for a fixed term of one (1) year with possibility for renewal. The salary offered will be commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. An extension of the appointment can be made depending on availability of funding and performance.

Candidate Profile

Prerequisite skills:

  • A University degree and Master’s in any scientific field
  • 1-3 years of previous relevant experience
  • Previous experience in project management activities
  • Previous experience in preparing business plans
  • Ability to multitask and change priorities with minimum supervision
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adopt to a multicultural/multinational environment
  • High level organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent knowledge of office IT
  • Excellent knowledge of oral and written English. Knowledge in the Greek language will be considered an advantage

Additional preferred skills:

  • Previous experience in a research/academic institution is preferred
  • Experience in innovation management
  • Experience in presenting to medium and large audiences
  • Knowledge of project management techniques and software tools
