The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit science and technology institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research aims of the Cyprus Institute are represented by three research centers: the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CASTORC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology Research Center (STARC), and the Energy Environment Water Research Center (EEWRC).  Considerable cross-center interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.

Description of the position:

As a member of CaSToRC, the successful candidate will contribute in various projects and activities of CaSToRC.  The successful candidate’s main responsibility will be to actively participate and contribute to CaSToRC activities in the current and future PRACE implementation project(s).  Furthermore, the successful candidate will be expected to manage the Resource Allocation Committee and Peer Review process for access to computational and data resources.

The mission of PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe) is to enable high impact scientific discovery and engineering research and development across all disciplines to enhance European competitiveness for the benefit of society. PRACE seeks to realize this mission by offering world class computing and data management resources and services through a peer review process.


  • To contribute in the PRACE implementation project(s) in particular in relation to Dissemination, and Outreach Events and Training.
  • To develop reports, proposals and other documents relevant to activities within the PRACE implementation projects.
  • To organize PRACE training events and help in setting up training programs in the use of High Performance Computing and related topics.
  • To manage and coordinate the PRACE related Resource Allocation Committee and Peer Review process for access to the production machine of CyI .
  • To interface with researchers and collaborators of the Center as well as future partners, both in Cyprus and abroad to strengthen the dissemination, training and educational activities related in High Performance Computing including those related to PRACE.
  • To help in the preparation of CaSToRC projects in the field of high performance computing and data science.
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in Computer Science or Computational Sciences or any other related field
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of high performance computing
  • Experience with the European computing eco-system
  • Experience with the organization of scientific training events
  • Knowledge of technical aspects and services in high performance computing
  • Programming experience with C, C++, Python or other programming languages
  • Experience with web design and web site management
  • Analytical and problem solving ability
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in oral and written English
  • Good interpersonal and teamwork skills

The initial appointment will be for a fixed term period with possibility for renewal.  The salary range will be commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the candidate.
