The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution based in Cyprus. The research aims of the Cyprus Institute are represented by three research centers: The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CASTORC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology Research Center (STARC), and the Energy Environment Water Research Center (EEWRC). Considerable cross-center interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.

The CyI seeks to recruit a highly motivated professional to assume the position of Web Development Officer.

As a member of the web development team at the Communications Office, the successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for all aspects of keeping the Institute’s websites content and design updated, backed up, and fully functional. 

Job Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Keeping the Institute’s website ( and associated websites’ content and design updated, backed up, and fully functional.
  • Maintaining the software which is critical to the functionality of the Institute’s website, creating and maintaining backups, monitoring usage and performance, producing detailed analytics, and troubleshooting and resolving any issues as they arise.
  • Planning and implementing a new main website for CyI as part of the CyI team
  • Creating new associated websites as the need arises (projects, conferences etc.)
  • Adding or improving modules to existing website(s) and modification of the underlying code as necessary, to meet the functionality required
  • Identifying and materializing opportunities for the further development of CyI websites (new scripts, new templates, new functionalities etc.)

Education and Qualifications: 


  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Design (including Web Development, Network Design) etc.
  • Master’s degree in a related field will be considered an advantage

Relevant Experience:

  • Experience of (3) years in web development. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required:

  • Experience and proficiency with CMS (Joomla and/or WordPress/Drupal), PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and relational database design is essential
  • Experience with computer coding and databases
  • Experience in website management and website design
  • Ability to design user interfaces for multiple devices & knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator will be considered an advantage
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language (written and verbal)
  • Knowledge of the Greek language will be considered an advantage
  • Motivated, creative, resourceful, and solution oriented individual who can work on multiple projects with limited supervision in a high-pressure work environment
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt in a multicultural environment
