The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit science and technology institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research aims of the CyI are represented by three research centers: the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CASTORC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology Research Center (STARC), and the Energy Environment Water Research Center (EEWRC). Considerable cross-center interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.

The CyI invites applications for Project Officer at the Energy Environment and Water Research Centre (EEWRC).  The successful candidate will support the development, management and implementation of all administrative and budgetary activities of the Center’s research projects, under the supervision of the Director and the Scientific Coordinator of EEWRC.  More specifically, the successful candidate will provide support to the financial coordination (i.e. overview of budget, financial reporting) of funded research in terms of both internally and externally funded projects.  Additionally to the administrative and budgetary responsibilities, the successful candidate will contribute in the communication with partners and stakeholders of the Center as well as in project proposal preparation.

The appointment will be on a full time basis, initially for a fixed term period of one (1) year, with the potential of contract renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds.

Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:

Assistance to Project Management:

  • Support research project oversight
  • Support project administration/coordination (timesheets, progress & financial reporting, deliverables, communication with funding organisations)
  • Support logistics for events and meetings
  • Communicate with project partners and stakeholders
  • Preparation of related EEWRC budget

Proposal preparation:

  • Participate in communication with funding agencies, the European Commission and the National Contact Points for getting clarification on various aspects of proposal writing and the relevant regulations
  • Support identification of funding opportunities
  • Aid in the development and creation of project proposals


Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in a relevant field such as Environmental or Earth or Natural Sciences or Business or Economic or Social Sciences

Additional required skills/knowledge:

  • At least 1 year of previous relevant experience
  • At least 1 year of previous experience in project management
  • Excellent knowledge of the English and Greek languages both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS office and internet IT tools
  • Accounting experience in budgets-preparation, monitoring and reporting
  • Previous experience in administration of EU-funded projects
  • Previous experience in a research/academic institution in a related field will be considered an advantage
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to a multicultural/multidisciplinary environment
  • High level organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills

 Additional Qualifications which would be considered as an advantage:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Accounts related certificate or degree
