The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit science and technology institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research aims of the CyI are represented by three research centers: the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CASTORC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology Research Center (STARC), and the Energy Environment Water Research Center (EEWRC). Considerable cross-center interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.
The Cyprus Institute (www.cyi.ac.cy) invites applications for a Research Assistant or Post-doctoral fellow position for EEWRC. The selected candidate will join a research team that aims to assess climate impacts on vector-borne diseases and their insect vectors, mainly through the development of computer models to simulate the spreading of the disease. The primary research areas include risk assessment, computer modelling, understanding of disease epidemiology, and vector control at various spatial and temporal scales. In particular, mosquito and sand fly vectors and diseases transmitted by them, and the influence of climate change, are of major concern. The results of the ongoing efforts are expected to have global impact in public health management, prediction and preparation for future disease outbreaks.
The rank and the remuneration of the position will depend on the selected candidate’s qualifications.
The appointment will be on a full time basis, initially for a period of two years, with the potential of renewal depending on performance and availability of funds.
