|Job Description|| |
The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit science and technology institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research aims of the CyI are represented by three research centers: the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CASTORC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology Research Center (STARC), and the Energy Environment Water Research Center (EEWRC). Considerable cross-center interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.
The objective of the joint research is to support the SIMDAS project to develop novel, accelerated methods, for efficient and robust inversion of seismic data. Accurate, and efficient inversion of seismic data is detrimental for the identification of new oil/gas fields, and presents a major investment cost during the exploratory phase of the process. Accelerated methods will enable the significant reduction of costs during the exploratory phase, and have the potential to attract the interest of major energy giants, thus making the upgraded center a leader in Cyprus and in the field in general. At the same time, given the recent hydrocarbon discoveries in Cyprus, it is important to promote collaborations of this kind in order to develop in-house expertise on oil/gas related subjects. Such expertise is essential for building a collaboration with the Cyprus Hydrocarbons Company.
The position will be funded by the DELPHI consortium.
The appointment will be on a full time basis, initially for two years, with the potential for renewal depending on performance and availability of funds.
The successful candidate will be carrying out the following activities:
