The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations and cross-disciplinary research and post graduate education. CyI, through its established research centers, addresses challenging issues that are important at both the regional and international levels. Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas.

CyI is the coordinating institution of Promoting Archaeological Science in the eastern Mediterranean (‘Promised’) with the University of Cambridge and the KU Leuven as the consortium partners (

The Project Officer will be supporting the activities of the project and, in general, s/he will be responsible for the daily management and administration of the project, under the direct supervision of the Director of STARC (Project Coordinator of Promised) and the Managing Coordinator of STARC.


The successful candidate will be carrying out the following activities:

  • Supporting STARC’s Director in all matters related to the project coordination and implementation;
  • Assisting the Director and the WP leaders in all reporting duties;
  • Preparing regular meetings of the Project Management Board and the Project Implementation Team, both as physical meetings and online, including drafting agendas and taking minutes;
  • Maintaining the project web pages and other publicity, liaising with colleagues as necessary;
  • Organizing training events, summer schools and public outreach events;
  • Keeping track of all financial issues including spending plans and liaising with CyI Accounts colleagues and the project partners;
  • Keeping track of all deliverables of the project and issuing timely reminders to the relevant WP leaders;
  • Keeping an overview of the overall budget and compiling the financial reporting of all consortium partners;
  • Organizing all travel activities for CyI-led activities and CyI staff and faculty related to the project;
  • Preparing timesheets;
  • Liaising with international partners and participants of events;
  • Acting as the general contact point between the project and the European Commission, and between the project and colleagues at STARC, CyI, the partner institutions (University of Cambridge and KU Leuven), and the wider public.
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Archaeology, Cultural Heritage or Business or Economic or Social Sciences or another relevant field.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field will be regarded as a competitive advantage. 
  • Previous experience in a similar role in a research/academic institution in a related field will be considered as a competitive advantage
  • At least two (2) years of relevant working experience
  • Excellent knowledge of MS office and internet IT tools
  • Proven ability to take minutes and write reports
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills to adapt to a multicultural/ multidisciplinary environment
  • High level organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High degree of numeracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to work with multiple and tight deadlines
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language. Knowledge of the Greek language will be considered an advantage.
