Job Description

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit science and technology institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees.

Reporting to the Head of Accounts and Finance, the selected candidate will be a member of the Finance and Accounts Department with primary responsibility the Financial management of competitive research grants and projects secured by the Institute (mainly from the EU).

She/he will be responsible for the financial reporting, planning and monitoring of the projects ensuring compliance with the relevant agreements.

In addition, she/he will have to provide support in the day to day activities of the department contributing also to the automation of all paper-based processes of the department.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the head of the office in a variety of Accounting and Financial issues
  • To work closely with the competent offices of the Research Division of CyI for the proper management of research grants
  • To ensure that the implementation and management of project finances comply with the required regulations set by the funding authorities and the Institute.
  • To provide support and guidance to research staff through meetings, training, awareness-raising sessions relevant to project finances and timesheets
  • To provide support in the preparation, consolidation, monitoring and reporting of budgets and forecast in compliance with CyI policies and procedures (in relation to the Funded Projects)
  • To monitor the utilization of expenditure of projects grants, and provide reports to the appropriate authorities on a periodic basis.
  • To establish and to maintain all relevant records and documentation necessary to the proper management of project finances.
  • To prepare financial reports for the CyI middle and higher management as well as for government authorities and other funding bodies and auditors.
  • To carry out other finance and accounts related activities as needed.
  • To provide new ideas and experiences into the process of redesigning and digitizing the department’s functions and the organization’s policies and practices.
Job Requirements


  • Holder of a relevant Master’s degree or relevant Professional Qualification in Accounting & Finance
  • At least five (5) years of relevant experience (e.g. accounting or finance departments, accounting or audit firms)
  • Previous experience and/or specialization into management of EU Funded Projects will be considered an advantage
  • Previous experience in an academic or research environment will be considered an advantage.
  • IT literate, with excellent knowledge of in MS Office and particularly Excel as well as the ability to quickly familiarize in the use of new software and systems. Experience in using Accounting software will be considered an advantage
  • Ability to multitask changing priorities with limited supervision in a high-pressure work environment with strict reporting deadlines
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adopt to a multicultural /multinational environment
  • High level of organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent knowledge of oral and written English/Greek language.
