Job Description

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations and cross-disciplinary research and post graduate education. CyI, through its established research centers, addresses challenging issues that are important at both the regional and international levels. Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas.

The successful candidate will contribute to the execution of the general communication activities of the Institute as well as its external and internal dissemination activities. Such activities include contributing to the organization of events, conferences, and other related external and internal activities.

The appointment will be on a full time basis, initially for a fixed-term period, with the potential of renewal depending on performance and availability of funds.


The successful candidate will be carrying out the following activities

  • Contribution to the planning, development and implementation of the Communication and public relations strategies, plans, and policies of the Institute;
  • Contribution to CyI’s internal communications activities by advising and supporting students, faculty and academic staff to promote and disseminate their research and scholarship to a variety of academic and non-academic audiences and stakeholders.
  • Support CyI’s external communications activities with prospective students, academics, policy-makers, key partners and stakeholders and the general public, including the preparation of media and publicity materials.
  • Coordination and maintenance of CyI’s social media presence by managing and updating information on the Institute’s social media channels and engaging with users to ensure the Institute’s social media presence is at the forefront of social media developments and trends.
  • Liaising with, and answering enquiries from media, individuals and other organizations, often via telephone and email;
  • Researching, writing and distributing original news content including articles, newsletters and press releases for the Institute’s dissemination channels (website, email, social media, etc.) including external targeted media (printed and online media, etc.);
  • Contribution to the organization of outreach and dissemination events including press conferences, workshops, exhibitions, open days and press tours, and fostering community relations through involvement in community initiatives;
  • Collating and analyzing media coverage and maintaining and work with the CyI webmaster for updating relevant information on the organization’s website;
  • Sourcing and managing speaking and sponsorship opportunities
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor degree or Professional degree in a relevant field (Communications, Digital Marketing, Journalism, Literature, Public Relations or other humanities or science field).
  • Minimum two (2) years of related demonstrable experience in a similar or relevant position.
  • Experience in planning and managing outreach and communication events.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent and demonstrable written skills in both Greek and English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency /expertise in Microsoft Office Suite including applications of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail and internet research.
  • Excellent planning and project management skills.
  • Excellent initiative, creativity and motivation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developing and managing corporate social media profiles. Awareness of different media agendas and audiences and understanding of the Higher Education sector.
