Job Description

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit science and technology institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research aims of the CyI are represented by three research centers: the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Center (STARC), and the Energy Environment Water Research Center (EEWRC). Considerable cross-center interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.

Description of the Position

The successful candidate(s) will be engaged with the on-going research at the Cyprus Institute in expanding its activities in energy system analysis. They will be members of the Energy Division within the Energy, Environment and Water Research Centre (EEWRC).

The appointment(s) will be at the Post-Doctoral Fellow rank. The initial period of the appointment will be 24 months, with the possibility of renewal subject to the project needs of the Cyprus Institute. The annual salary is to be internationally competitive depending on qualifications. In addition to the salary, each researcher will have career development opportunities based on their specialization, interest, experience and skills, which will include training and development at the CyI, secondments at prestigious research institutions around the world and participation in international conferences and events.

The selected candidate will be reporting to the head of the Energy Division.

According to his/her qualifications the selected candidate will be required to carry out activities related to:

  • The modelling, analysis, design and optimization of overall energy system configurations.
  • The analysis (in qualitative and quantitative terms using the appropriate tools and techniques) of policy scenarios for energy supply and use in Cyprus, the MENA region, the EU and internationally.
  • The active collaboration with other departments and research groups within the CyI, Cyprus, the EU and internationally on scientific areas synergistic to energy; principally the challenges posed by a changing climate.
  • The contribution to technical deliverables and other technical documents.
