The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations and cross-disciplinary research and post graduate education. CyI, through its established research centers, addresses challenging issues that are important at both the regional and international levels. Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas.
The selected candidate will support the research activities of the Institute’s Interreg V-A project ERMIS-F, which is supported by the European Commission –Joint Secretariat, Interreg V-A Program Greece of Cyprus (2014-2020), extending from January 2018 to June 2020.
The ERMIS-Floods project intends to create an Integrated Public Service, a Digital System and an Online Information Platform regarding floods and other natural and environmental risks. Utilizing digital cartographic information, computational risk assessment models and (predictive) disaster forecasting, it aims to make available to the public useful scientific information, which can be incorporated into the decision-making tools handled by each interested target group.
ERMIS-F will set up an information Point, aiming to familiarize the beneficiaries and the local communities with the ERMIS-F services. It will feature: (a) a GIS web-portal (ERMIS-F portal), (b) a Knowledge Data Base, (c) a Social Network application, (d) a Crowdsourcing application, (a) an Early Warning System. The selected candidate will contribute to a number of activities related to system requirements and analysis for ERMIS-F, service design and technical descriptions of the system, communicating with stakeholders and documenting the system parameters in detail. The activities will be carried out within the Water Research and Management Division of EEWRC at CyI and it is intended to include (within the activities below) bibliographical review, interviews, flood-related data identification, building on CyI’s previous work and contributing to the actions of the ERMIS-F Interreg program.
The appointment will be on a full time basis, for a fixed-term period, with the potential of renewal depending on performance and availability of funds.
