The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations and cross-disciplinary research and post graduate education. CyI, through its established research centers, addresses challenging issues that are important at both the regional and international levels. Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas.

Under the supervision of the CySTEM ERA Chair, the Scientific Coordinator for the CySTEM project will take responsibility for supporting and coordinating all project-related activities. This includes in addition to administrative matters, engagement in the strategic development of the project portfolio and the research agenda. The successful candidate is expected to drive the project management aspects of the CySTEM chair under minimal guidance.

The candidate should have an administrative background suitable for the initiation and administrative management of scientific projects. The position requires a proactive, creative, independently thinking person with keen interest for promoting science and technology.

The appointment will be on a full time basis, initially for a fixed-term period of 12 months, with the potential of renewal depending on performance and availability of funds.


The successful candidate will be carrying out the following activities

  1. Project Management:
    1. General responsibility of the project management  aspects of the CySTEM Project
    2. Project administration/coordination (i.e. progress & financial reporting, deliverables, communication with funding organisations)
  2. Proposal preparation:
    1. Liaising with funding agencies, the European Commission and the National Contact Points for getting clarification on various aspects of proposal writing and the relevant regulations
    2. Identification of funding opportunities
    3. Aiding in the development and writing of project proposals 
  3. Institutional tasks:
    1. Identification of cooperation opportunities with potential partners and for applied exploitation of research results and innovation opportunities
    2. Specializing in specific R&I management areas (project management, proposal writing) and provide training to the CyI staff
    3. Contributing in the long-term/strategic center/group planning and activities


Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • A post graduate degree in a scientific/technical field or a bachelor degree in a scientific/technical field with a post graduate degree in management
  • Three (3) years previous working experience relevant to the requirements of the position
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to operate in a multicultural/multidisciplinary environment
  • High level organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language both verbal and in writing. Knowledge of the Greek language will be considered an advantage
  • Experience in presenting to medium and large audiences
  • Excellent knowledge of office IT tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project management qualification would be an advantage
  • Previous experience in a research/academic institution would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of project management software would be an advantage
