The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations, cross-disciplinary research, innovation, and post graduate education. CyI, through its established research centers, addresses challenging issues that are important at both the regional and international levels. Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas.

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a technician to work in a new nanotechnology research laboratory. The role of the technician will be to operate and maintain state-of-the-art instruments for the characterization of nanoparticles and nanomaterial. The position will be on a full-time basis for a fixed term of one year, renewable depending on performance and availability of funds. The successful candidate will be under the supervision of the Head as well as the Research Technical Specialist of the Laboratory.


The successful candidate will be carrying out the following activities:

  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of specialized scientific instruments
  • Assist in the analysis and the presentation of measurements
  • Ensure that all necessary Health and Safety measures are taken for the safety of staff, visitors and students
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor degree in one of the below:
    1. Physics (experimental physics)
    2. Electrical and/or Mechanical and/or Chemical and/or Aerospace Engineering
    3. Nanotechnology or Instrument Technology
  • Familiarity with analytical instruments such as mass spectrometers and/or atomic force microscopes
  • Familiarity with programming languages
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • High interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language both verbal and in writing. Knowledge of the Greek language will be considered an advantage

Preferred qualification

  • Preferred experience in technology-related research laboratories.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and measures relevant to lab/technical activities
