Job Description

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations and cross-disciplinary research and post graduate education. CyI, through its established research centers, addresses challenging issues that are important at both the regional and international levels. Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas. Within this context, CyI in cooperation with Advanced Partners Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, University of Helsinki and Commission for Atomic Energy – Laboratory for Sciences of the Climate and the Environment, are establishing the “(EMME-CARE) Eastern Mediterranean Middle East – Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre of Excellence” under Horizon 2020 – TEAMING Grant no. 856612.

Under the Supervision of the EMME-CARE Director, and the co-Supervision of the Head of EMME-CARE Research Infrastructure, the successful candidate will contribute to the execution of all IT and web (development/maintenance) related activities of EMME-CARE. The successful candidate will be expected both to provide general IT support, and to contribute in developing suitable IT solutions to deliver a professional, high-quality service supporting the scientific, research and technical requirements of the Research Departments and Facilities of the EMME-CARE Centre-of-Excellence.

The appointment will be on a full time basis, initially for a fixed-term period, with the potential of renewal depending on performance and EMME-CARE and Institute needs.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes in the administration and troubleshooting of EMME-CARE’s IT infrastructure including servers, network, PC’s and other IT equipment;
  • Contributes in the creation as well as the running and maintenance of EMME-CARE website(s);
  • Works collaboratively with a diverse group of colleagues, creating solutions to solve complex problems.
  • Identifies information for software/hardware and technology used in business functions and identifies areas in which improvements could be made to maximize effectiveness and efficiency;
  • Consults with end-users to assess computing needs and information system requirements; suggests solutions and specifies the technology suited to meet those needs;
  • Following the relevant internal and external regulations, procures and evaluates hardware as well as software packages that offer solutions to the IT needs of the EMME-CARE Centre-of-Excellence; 
  • Provides project management support during development or upgrade of Information Systems and assists with the acceptance procedures;
  • Specifies small applications and upgrades when required;
  • Trains the EMME-CARE personnel on the use of applications and prepares simplified user manuals as necessary;
  • Provides user support for Information Systems that may or may not have maintenance and support agreements;
  • Installs and configures computer hardware operating systems and applications;

 

Job Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor Degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering or Information Technology
  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience
  • Basic knowledge of Database Management such as Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL
  • Knowledge of Operating Systems such as MAC OS, Windows 7 / 10, Linux
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail) and Internet/Web.
  • High level of interpersonal skills with experience of providing complex IT support in high-profile environment with tact and diplomacy.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills as well as problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with multiple and tight deadlines
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team and the ability to adapt to a multicultural, multinational environment
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language both verbal and in writing. Knowledge of the Greek language will be considered an advantage

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Master degree in a relevant field would be considered as an advantage
  • Knowledge of Web design and development tools will be considered as an advantage
  • Scripting for task automation (Windows and Linux)
  • CISCO and Microsoft Certifications
