The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit science and technology institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research aims of the CyI are represented by three research centers: the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CASTORC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology Research Center (STARC), and the Energy Environment Water Research Center (EEWRC). Considerable cross-center interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.

The CyI invites applications for Postdoctoral Scientist position(s) for Energy Efficiency and Built Environment. The successful candidate(s) shall be actively engaged with the ongoing research activities associated with the Energy Efficiency and Built Environment portfolio of the Energy Division at CyI.



The successful candidate(s) will be carrying out the following activities:

  •  Built environment sustainability
  •  Data analysis and optimization of the energy, climate, comfort and the human factors in built environment (indoor, outdoor).
  • Development or adaptation of policies and standards in built environment
  • Modeling of energy efficiency in built environment
  • Optimization of energy resource systems for energy efficient buildings.

The appointment(s) will be of a full time basis, initially for a fixed term period with the potential of contract renewal depending on performance and availability of funds. The annual salary, which is to be internationally competitive, will depend on the applicants’ experience and qualifications.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • A PhD in a relevant field of science or engineering such as Architecture, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Engineering, Process Engineering and Experimental Physics
  • Publications in a relevant field
  • Presentations in conferences and workshops
  • Familiarity with European and international sustainability rating systems
  • Building industry experience in sustainable developments (small, medium and large scales)
  • Teaching experience
  • Participation in European funded research projects
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adopt to a multicultural/multinational environment
  • High level of organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential. Knowledge of the Greek language will be considered an advantage.

Additional, preferred specialised experience in one or more of the following fields would be considered as an advantage:

  • Built environment and urbanization
  • Architecture and green design
  • Occupants’ behavior and comfort
  • Environmental Policies and Standards
  • Energy, energy saving, renewable energies and sustainability
  • Materials in the built environment
  • Modeling and data analysis software in climate architecture
  • Computational and experimental fluid-mechanics
